Avid Image Stabilization
For correcting shaky camera work, based on technology developed for Avid's high-end Symphony system. Easy and intuitive interface. Simply point to a solid object in the frame, such as a corner of a building. The image stabilization technology tracks the object frame by frame and locks it down, rock solid. Also includes the ability to auto-zoom the image to create a full frame stabilized image. The result is a shake-free shot that looks like it was shot with a tripod or Steadicam (a $1,200 US value).
The Stabilizer filter allows you to remove the shakes and jitter that all to often appear on our DV footage. What you do is select an area on the screen that the Stabilizer image will lock on too. The Stabilize analyzes the footage and then shifts the image around to keep your selection locked in. It then automatically crops and zooms the image for full screen playback.
The stabilzer tool that comes with the Xpress DV PowerPack is amazing. Since you get to control the area on the video that will be used as the lock in area for stabilizing, you can get exceptional results. Other stabilizers often use the foreground portion of the image, or a high contrast point. We have found that by picking an area in the background with horizontal and/or verticle lines we achieved the best results. In this footage I selected the edge of the balance beam with the climbing ladders behind it. The results were spectacular.

Boris FX 6.1
Perhaps the best-known and most widely used 3D transition plug-in is Boris FX. This plug-in has gotten significantly more powerful and easier to use over the years. The current version allows you to add all kinds of 2D and 3D transitions and special effects. The Boris GUI is really nice. The Library Browser gives you thumbnails of each effect. Click on a thumbnail and it appears in the preview window in real-time with your actual video. Now that you've selected your basic FX, the fun really begins. The transition is loaded directly into the keyframer. Now you can customize it and add to it. While it's a little intense at first, the power you get is incredible. With a little practice, you'll be creating your own multi-layered transitions and FX!
Version 6 turns this into much more then just a first class 3D FX engine. Now you can add natural particle effects such as Clouds, Comet, Fire, Rain, Snow, Sparks and Stars. You can control the production, animation, and gravity of each filter. Even cooler, you can control the attraction and collision with other layers - including alpha channels. The new Motion Blur filter lets you simulate multiple camera shutter speed blurs to create a dramatic and realistic look for shape animation.With the new light filters you can add Spot Lights, Light Sweeps, and Edge Lights.These are perfect for dramatic re-lighting of images and sweeps of light across graphics.
Boris FX is also available in more expensive versions. Pro supports many of the highest-level NLE Apps and adds additional features and FX. Red is their broadcast level product, which is used by the networks, cable and TV producers in Hollywood and all over the world.
Boris Graffiti Version 2.0
Vector text provides razor-sharp display at any scale. Hundreds of
customizable presets feature full 3D DVE controls, animated tracking,
sophisticated type-on effects and animated text on a path. Advanced
formatting tools include kerning, tabs, word wrap, and multiple styles per
word. Easily create auto-animated rolls, crawls, fades, shuffles and zooms.
Map text to 3D shapes, extrude with materials and reflection maps, and
composite in three dimensions. Graffiti also supports third-party After
Effects filters, offering even more effects options.
Sonic DVDit! SE
The SE version (a $299 US value) in PowerPack replaces the LE version in the basic Avid Xpress DV package.
