Q.Does DVDit Pro HD allow authors to put straight HD video on disc?
A.Straight HD video on a Blu-ray Disc is called BDAV. It’s the same metaphor of using your set top DVD recorder or VHS deck to record a show. DVDit Pro HD is uses HDMV so while you could place straight HD video onto a Blu-ray disc; you can also include interactive menus, slideshows, multiple audio and subtitle tracks, and all of the complex navigation you have become accustomed to in DVD.
Q.Will DVDit Pro HD allow for advanced features like menus over video?
A.DVDit Pro HD is a hybrid application which allows you to create SD DVDs and HD Blu-ray discs with interactive menus and up to 8 audio tracks, 32 subtitle tracks, playlists, complex navigation and content protection. Blu-ray’s advanced features are currently only supported in ultra high-end ($50,000+) Blu-ray authoring tools.
Q.Can I create 1080p discs with DVDit Pro HD?
A.Absolutely. DVDit Pro HD will allow you to create 1080p, 1080i or 720p movies, menus and slideshows.
Q.How much HD video can I fit onto a BD disc?
A.That depends. If you create a disc with 720p assets at a 15 mbs bit rate you can fit up to 2.5 hours of stunning HD content on a 25 GB Blu-ray disc. If you create a disc with 1080p assets at a 24 mbs bit rate (DVDit Pro HD supports up to 40 mbs) you can fit roughly 90 minutes of HD content on a 25 GB Blu-ray disc. If you author to a dual layer BD-50 disc you can fit up to 5 hours of HD video on 1 disc
Q.What codecs does DVDit Pro HD support?
A.For video, DVDit Pro HD currently supports encoding of HD MPEG-2 and pass-through of AVC and VC-1 video at up to 40 mbs. For audio, DVDit Pro HD currently supports multi-channel Dolby Digital and PCM pass-through.
Q.So I can include Dolby Digital audio on my Blu-ray discs?
A.Absolutely! DVDit uses Dolby Digital Consumer Encoder technology, offering users the ability to create amazing DVD-video and Blu-ray Disc soundtracks in surround sound from a PC and provides pass through of 5.1 channel surround sound audio, delivering high-quality discrete multichannel audio without compromising video quality. This product does not use Dolby Digital Professional Encoder technology which is intended for use in professional applications such as broadcast, cable head-end facilities, the authoring or creation of content for broad commercial distribution or for real time streaming application. Content created with the Dolby Digital Consumer Encoder technology is not eligible to be marked with any Dolby Digital logo and the use of Dolby trailers is not permitted. Q.How can I view the Blu-ray discs that I burn with DVDit Pro HD?
A.You can view BD discs created with DVDit Pro HD in Blu-ray Disc capable computers and set top players. Note that some of the set top players that are being sold will play back HDMV on BD-R(RE) and some will not. Please check the manufacturer’s specifications for HDMV on BD-R(RE) support.
