Tips for installing new drivers

  1. Download the new driver
  2. Make sure you have successfully downloaded and unzipped the new drivers into a temp directory.

  3. Make sure you still have a copy of the old drivers incase something goes wrong.
  4. It is also advisable at this time to make a back up of your key Windows system files and any video projects you are still working on

  5. Read the README.TXT before you install the new drivers
  6. I can't stress this enough. The best tech notes are in the README file. MAke it a habit to read this file BEFORE you install any new hardware or software onto your system. I can't tell you how many potential disasters have been avoided by taking the extra few minutes it takes to check out the README.

  7. NOTE: If it appears the README file contradicts any of the tech tips found on this page or anywhere else on our website, go with the README!
  8. Our tech tips are general, for any NLE card we sell. Sometimes there are specific steps that the vendors have included to make their install go smoother. This is another key reason why you must read the README!!

  9. Fully remove the old driver
  10. Before installing the new driver version, we recommend you remove your existing driver. (NOTE: Always save the old install/set up files for the old drivers in case the new ones create problems for you) Most of the latest drivers have an uninstall program. Run the uninstall, then go into Control Panel and make sure all the drivers/codecs have been removed.

    Removing from the Control Panels:

Start > Settings > Control Panels > Multimedia > Advanced > Video Compression CoDecs: - (Fast, Miro, DPS, Truevision or whichever is listed), double click on it, then click the Remove button.

Start > Settings > Control Panels > Multimedia > Advanced > Video Capture Devices: - (Fast, Miro, DPS, Truevision or whichever is listed), double click on it, then click the Remove button.

Start > Settings > Control Panels > System > Device Manager > Sound, Video, and Game Controllers: - select (Fast, Miro, DPS, Truevision or whichever is listed), then click the Remove Button.

    Removing remaining files from Windows:
Unfortunatley for some drivers the steps above will not completely remove the old software. Often, this is because these files get installed by windows when you boot up and they can't be uninstalled from within windows. If this is the case, you have to exit windows into DOS mode.

    1. Go To Start>Shut down> select restart the computer in MS_DOS mode
    2. At the DOS prompt c:> type cd\windows. this will get you into the windows directory.
    3. Now search for files your capture card may have left installed. type dir miro*.* (substitute the brand of the card you had. You may have to experiment a little to find the files you need to delete).
    4. I then recommend using the copy command and copying the files you are about to delete onto a floppy disk, just in case you end up still needing them. copy miro*.* a:.
    5. Now delete each file individually using the delete command. del miroxyz.dll. I don't recommend using a wildcard for deletes. type them in one at a time.
    6. now type cd\windows\system. This will get you into the windows system directory. repeat steps 3 through 6 above.
