Our Lowest Cost Redundant Disk Array
The new VideoRaid RTS Ultra160 SCSI disk arrays from Medéa are the ideal low-cost protected storage solution for all DCC applications. Using the same RAID controller technology utilized in the VideoRaid RTR series, RTS disk arrays provide data protection in the event of a disk drive failure and offer superb performance, yet cost significantly less than unprotected just-a-bunch-of-disk (JBOD) storage solutions.

    Protects Your Content
VideoRaid RTS disk arrays will continue to operate with no loss of data and no degradation in performance in the unlikely event of a disk drive failure, allowing the user to complete work in real-time environments without the need for immediate service.

    High Performance, Ultra160 SCSI Interface
VideoRaid RTS disk arrays feature a high-performance Ultra160 SCSI interface and a sustained single-stream data transfer rate up to 100 MB/second - more than enough bandwidth to support dual-stream, real-time uncompressed NLE systems.

    Multi-Stream Technology (MSTTM)
VideoRaid RTS features Medéa's proprietary Multi-Stream Technology, a sophisticated embedded stream handling algorithm that works in conjunction with the system's on-board caching RAID controller to support the simultaneous real-time playback of two streams of uncompressed video. Interface: Ultra160 SCSI, LVD Sustained Data Rate: Up

    Plug &Play Installation
VideoRaid RTR (and each channel of VideoRaid RTRX)appears to your computer as one large SCSI disk drive with a single SCSI ID.Simply attach the array to a qualified Ultra160 SCSI host adapter and format as you would a single drive. No third party software or hardware configuration is required.

    Sneaker-Net Enabled
VideoRaid RTR ’s small physical size and on-board RAID controller enables the unit to share files between workstations (with the same OS)via sneaker-net. Content can also be moved between VideoRaid RTR or VideoRaid RTRX equipped workstations by simply swapping the removable disk drive modules.

    Scalable Capacity to 9 Terabytes
As your storage requirements grow,Medéa VideoRaid units can be daisy-chained together for storage capacities up to 9 terabytes (9,000 GB)on a single SCSI host adapter –that ’s over 100 hours of uncompressed video footage!

The Best Support in the Business
VideoRaid RTR and VideoRaid RTRX disk arrays are factory integrated and tested and are covered by a 3-year factory warranty. And like every Medéa storage solution, the VideoRaid disk arrays are backed with unlimited free technical support and an advanced replacement policy.

The Videoguys' Insider Vol 2 Issue 2
This month's interview is with Don McDonell, VP of worldwide channel sales for Medea Corporation.

Videoguy: Medea was the pioneer in utilizing IDE (or EIDE, or ATA, or UDMA, or whatever you want to call them) disk drives in a RAID for video editing. Don and I go way back, in fact I've still got my invoice for VideoRaid #1, shipped back in September of 1997, hanging on the wall in my office. The cost of storage was a major portion of a Non Linear Editing system back then, and thanks to Medea it became significantly more affordable.

Don: Thanks for the compliment, Gary. I also framed your 1997 email congratulating us on a job well done, and promising to move "tonnage," which you have done.

You remember those days Gary, when editors couldn't use the entire capacity of a disk drive for video because at some point it became too slow to support video? As you know, playing video on the desktop requires a high sustained data rate, and that's exactly what those early Medéa products provided. The key to our technology was, and remains today, striping inexpensive disk drives together to obtain the data rates required to support video over the entire capacity of the device. Prior to Medéa, these rates could only be obtained with very expensive SCSI disk drives. Medéa set a new standard in three areas: high performance, low cost and ease of use. ...click here to read the complete interview with Medea

    Medéa Introduces VideoRaid RTS –
Industry’s Lowest Cost, Redundant Disk Arrays for Digital Content Creation

LAS VEGAS, April 8, 2002 - Medéa Corporation, a leading storage solutions provider to the digital content creation (DCC) and Internet streaming media markets, today debuted its new VideoRaid RTS disk arrays at the NAB show in Las Vegas, April 8-11.

The Medéa VideoRaid RTS is the industry’s lowest cost redundant disk array, designed specifically for DCC applications including non-linear video editing (NLE), 2D/3D animation, compositing and game development. “Our new VideoRaid RTS disk arrays shatter the traditional cost barriers associated with redundant storage solutions used in professional digital content creation applications,” said Roger Mabon, vice president of channel marketing at Medéa. “VideoRaid RTS provides data protection and industry leading performance for these applications at prices as low as $7/GB – significantly less than what other vendors charge for unprotected just-a-bunch-of-disk (JBOD) products.”

Medéa RTS disk arrays are available in a compact 5-drive desktop tower with capacities of 160 GB, 320 GB and 640 GB. The arrays feature a highperformance Ultra160 SCSI interface that enables the VideoRaid RTS to sustain a data transfer rate of up to 100 MB/second.

In addition to offering digital content creators a high bandwidth storage solution, VideoRaid RTS disk arrays also provide data protection. In the unlikely event of a disk drive failure, the system will continue to operate with no loss of data and no degradation in data transfer rate. The ability to operate at full performance with a “downed drive” enables the user to complete work in real-time environments without requiring immediate service.

VideoRaid RTS is optimized with Medéa’s proprietary Multi-Stream Technology (MST™). MST is a sophisticated caching algorithm that enables VideoRaid RTS disk arrays to support the playback of complicated NLE time-lines with up to two real-time uncompressed video streams.
